  • A Question For Black People

    How dare you?

How dare you...question my reasons for voting for Obama?
I did not vote for him because he's "hott", nor because I thought it would be "fun" to try out a black president. NEWSFLASH: He is not even black! He's mixed race. He is not your president, your new civil rights hero, or anything else. He is our president. He is America's president. He is president to every race we have in this melting pot of a country, so don't you dare think he is any less my president or that he speaks any less for me just because of the color of my skin. I believe in his principles and his plan, just like I hope you do. Maybe you should question your own reasons for voting for him, because if you think I only voted for him because he's black, what am I supposed to assume about your reasons?

How dare you...still complain about racism in this country?
You have a whole month dedicated to your "history". I'm Native American and what do I get? A few pages in the history books and a scholarship. Woop-de-freaking-doo. More Native Americans were killed in this country by the European settlers than Jews were killed in the Holocaust. LOOK IT UP. Now there is a disgusting statistic. Yea sure, you were slaves. That was years ago! The slaves were freed, affirmative action was put in place, and a million other safeguards so racism would no longer be a problem.
If anything, with all these programs and just general deterioration of society, black people are now becoming racist towards white people! What, now that you're no longer being oppressed you can become the oppressors? How can you live with yourselves after what this country has done for you?

How dare you...overwhelmingly vote for Prop 8 in California?
Are you serious? Gays are a minority, just like you. You were oppressed, judged, ostracized, and now you're turning around and doing it to another minority like yourselves? What, is it your turn to pretend to be superior now? I know black people that are gay and they are supported by their family and friends, so what the hell is wrong with you when it comes to a vote? You voted for a liberal president! Seriously, what the hell? Again, the natural assumption would be that you only voted for Obama because he was "black", because you obviously don't agree with most of his policies.

    How dare you...use racial/sexist slurs?
Okay, let's be real for a minute. If I were to walk up to you and call you a "nigga" and say that your "shawty" is a "ho", I would go from breathing to six-feet-under in about 3 seconds. First of all, it's just stupid that you say those things to one another, but white people aren't allowed to say them. We don't run around calling eachother "crackers", so I don't see why you can run around calling eachother "niggas". It's disgusting and you allow it! You allow it in your music, your movies, your very culture, and yet you flip out when some radio host says "nappy-headed hos"? How hypocritical is that!? Some famous black rapper could have said that same thing in a song and none of you would have done shit. As far as I'm concerned, you are your own problem when it comes to that. Any and all racial or sexist slurs are filth, and so are the people that use them as far as I'm concerned, so get your acts together and stop it unless you want the words you use to become socially acceptable again, which is definitely the way this is going.

    Finally...

    BE COLORBLIND,
EVEN IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR

NOTE: I know that not all black people are like this, I'm not a generalizing racist. It's just that outside of my friends that are black, most black people I have had contact with these past few months have been hostile, prejudice, and just downright unpleasant to be around and I'm just so angry! No, I'm furious, and I couldn't just sit back and take all this shit without saying something, so here it is. Here is my something.

  • Can you be desensitized?

I hear all this stuff about how the younger generation has become "desensitized" because of all the blood, gore, violence, sex, etc available to us in television shows, movies, and even the media has become a lot more free with it's information.

I don't mean to say that we are breeding a whole new generation of serial killers and car-jackers because they "Saw it on TV" or "Saw it in a video game", but are we raising a generation that doesn't care when stuff like that happens?

Personally, I don't think television, video games, movies, the media, etc has as much to do with the mind as people like to say it does. If you go out and murder somebody, don't come crying to me saying that CSI or Saw "brainwashed" you into thinking that was okay. You are a human being, you were born with a conscience, and if you ignore it then it was your choice, not the televisions, and you should be punished accordingly.

The argument is, essentially, that if I stepped out of my door and saw a single father of 3 autistic toddlers lying in a pool of blood with puppies crying all around him, it would not bother me as much as it would someone outside of my generation, like my parents.

Frankly, I think it would effect me pretty much the same. I don't think culture has "desensitized" us so much as brought these events into the forefront of out minds. I think I would be able to handle a situation like that better than my parents would because I've seen similiar/worse things happen, and I mean in reality that time, but I don't think I would be any less sensitive to it. Just because my generation doesn't cry when people get trapped in a mine doesn't mean we're insensitive. We're just less sensitive than you because more stuff has happened in our generation. Was date-rape around when you were kids? How about terrorist attacks? We have to be tougher. We have to be aware. We have to be prepared. If we knew someone who was trapped in that mine or whatever, all bets are off and, personally, I'd turn into a raving hysterical lunatic who cries until she can cry no more.

So, the next time you're crying over a newscast because it's "Just so terrible!", and you wonder why the young adult in the room isn't as torn up as you, remember: We're not desensitized, we're just not surprised.

  • Me in a nutshell

Okay, here is a breakdown of me, and thus this blog:
    - I will not apologize for anything I put on here. They are my thoughts, opinions, observations, etc so you can just deal with it. If I offend you, then don't come to my page anymore.
    - I would describe myself as center-left
    - I'm pretty blunt
    - I've been in love twice. One is current, and the other I don't think will ever entirely go away.
    - I've seen/been through a lot of things
    - I'm very open about everything
    - Books and music shape my world
    - I do not smoke, drink, or do drugs. Smoking kills. Alcohol doesn't taste pleasant to me. Drugs would make me do really stupid stuff.
    - I'm kind of lost somewhere in the territory between Christian and Neo-pagan
    - I'm straight
    - All of my close friends are now hundreds of miles away
    - Regardless of distance, I have the most amazing friends in the world
    - I'm a freshmen at Grand Valley State University
    - I'm a bit of a hermit/introvert/recluse
    - If I had the money, I would, ironically, spend it all on shoes, purses, and nice clothes
    - I love to eat, and for the record, I'm 5'7"or so and 122 pounds
    - If I spend more than an hour shopping I lose my will to live
    - I have suffered from depression
    - I have cut myself
    - I have attempted suicide
    - I have been sexually assaulted
    - I've gotten through it all, and am now content with my life and who I am
